"Penmaenpool Toll Bridge"
I painted this original oil en plein air at Dolgellau, drawn to the quiet beauty of Penmaenpool Toll Bridge on a soft, drizzly day. What inspired me most was the moment the clouds briefly parted and sunlight spilled through, lighting up the water behind the bridge and creating delicate reflections. I wanted to capture that fleeting contrast between grey skies and shimmering light. The figures walking across the bridge added just enough movement and life to balance the stillness of the scene.
At the far end of the bridge, you can see the historic Toll House, built in 1921 for the resident toll keeper — a small but meaningful reminder of the bridge's local history.
