Artist Statement

I am a North Wales based artist working primarily in oils. My practice is centred around plein air painting — working directly from life outdoors to capture the atmosphere, light, and character of a place in the moment. Painting in this way allows me to respond intuitively to my surroundings, resulting in work that is fresh, expressive, and grounded in direct experience.

I’m drawn to the challenge and immediacy of painting on location. The ever changing conditions demand a loose, impressionistic approach that encourages spontaneity and keeps my mark-making honest and alive. Whether it’s a quiet coastal path, a windswept hillside, or shifting skies, I aim to evoke a sense of presence through colour, light, and brushwork.

Alongside landscape, I also enjoy painting still life. These works are created alla prima ,in one sitting, using the same direct, observational approach. This method allows me to explore composition and form while maintaining the energy and immediacy that I value in all my work.

Ultimately, my goal is to share how I see and feel the world, not with polished precision, but with painterly gestures that speak to the fleeting beauty of everyday moments.
