I painted this piece en plein air in the gardens of Chester Cathedral, capturing the beauty of the space in the moment, with a few finishing touches added later in the studio. My aim was to make the gardens themselves the true subject — with echinacea and agapanthus flowers forming the focal point — while keeping the brushwork loose and impressionistic to preserve the freshness of the scene.
It is presented in a handmade, hand-painted 3" frame finished in Farrow & Ball Off-White No. 3, with a gold-leaf inner edge that adds a warm accent.
